Is It Time to Replace Your Car's Battery?

To work properly, your car battery needs a charge of 12.0 volts or higher. When the charge gets too low, it can be difficult to get the car started. How do you know if it's time to replace your car battery? Grab a voltmeter and check it out.

A voltmeter is a device that measures the number of volts a battery currently has. The device has two connectors: one positive, one negative. To test your car battery, put on goggles and rubber gloves. Then, connect the positive connector of the voltmeter to the positive terminal on the battery. Connect the negative connector to the negative terminal. Look at the voltmeter reading.

If the reading is 12.4 volts or above, the battery has a good charge. If it's below 12.0 volts, it doesn't. Bring your car to the service department at Napleton's Autowerks of Indiana, Inc. We'll check the battery and let you know what we find.
