If you've got a problem with your braking system, watch out. This is an issue that should be addressed immediately, as failure to do so could lead to some nasty consequences. These days, many contemporary vehicles are equipped with brake lights. Have one? Cool! Use it to your advantage, and take your car to the shop when you see it light up.
Don't have a brake light indicator? Check out the following ways you can know when it is time for a brake inspection:
1. Smell something burning? Pull over. It could be that your brakes are overheating, especially if you just got done using them in an aggressive manner. Once they've cooled, you can continue on, but may want to get to the shop within the next few days to check them out.
2. Hearing odd noises? This is a major cause for concern. If your brakes are squealing, screeching or grinding on application, you need to get to a mechanic, stat!
3. Does your car shake when you apply the brake? If so, this is another major indicator that something is wrong. Schedule an appointment with your local mechanic to get your brakes checked out.
